Why This Matters

Entrepreneurship Can Be a Lonely Road

Building a business from scratch is one of the hardest things a person can do. And for women, it often comes with an extra layer of difficulty — not just the sleepless nights and financial uncertainty, but the quiet pressure to not talk about the hard parts. We’re conditioned, from a young age, to not ask for help.

We figure it out ourselves. We make do. We push through. And sometimes, what keeps a female founder from taking her business to the next level is a single resource that someone else might be able to easily provide.

So we’re asking for her. The Female Founders Wish List is a place where female entrepreneurs can name — openly and without apology — the one thing that would make a real difference in their business today, giving you the opportunity to step in and help make it happen.

“The most powerful thing a woman can do is ask for exactly what she needs.”

Meet the Founders

Each of these women is building something real. Here’s what they need right now.

BH

Breanna Hoepner

Once Upon a Cake Studio · College Park, MD

Breanna makes custom cakes and cupcakes using the finest ingredients and old family recipes. While she’s been a media professional for over two decades, baking is in her blood: she practically grew up in her grandfather’s – and then father’s bakery in Wisconsin. Business is booming, and she’s ready to take it to the next level.

Her Wish
A new or gently used 12-16 quart industrial mixer so she can scale her business.
NL

Nicole Lipkin

HeyKiddo · Philadelphia, PA

Nicole is a clinical and organizational psychologist, executive coach, and author whose built a career around understanding what makes people — and organizations — thrive. In 2020, she channeled that expertise into HeyKiddo, a research-backed app delivering social and emotional learning tools to kids and families. With three National Science Foundation grants and some initial outside investment already backing the app, she’s ready to take it to the next level.

Her Wish
Nicole could use help from an IP lawyer – and would love introductions to impact investors. Nicole’s also recruiting parenting influencers interested in trying the HeyKiddo platform out.

Stephanie Angelides

Clean + Comfort · Long Island, NY

Stephanie is an award-winning media executive with over two decades of experience. Inspired by her autistic son, she’s also the founder of Clean + Comfort, a company that develops visual tools and adaptive products for children and adults with disabilities, to help them perform daily hygiene routines with greater independence.

Her Wish
Stephanie has found it difficult to promote her shower and bath learning products online because her ads and posts keep getting blocked by social media’s child protection filters. She’d love to find someone who’s willing to volunteer their time to help her navigate these filters so information about her products can reach the audience that needs them.

Gayle Jones

FuelBoxx, Los Angeles, CA

An award-winning sports producer and marketing executive, Gayle is CEO & Founder of FuelBoxx, a grab-and-go nutritional system for teen athletes. Gayle developed FuelBoxx with a nutritionist after witnessing the difference proper fueling made in the sports performance of her own teens.

Her Wish
With an established pipeline of 9-10 organizations, Gayle is preparing for a seed funding round and would love a mentor session (or two) with a B2B growth and sales advisor – especially someone who’s closed institutional deals in CPG, Food Services, and/or youth sports.

Sabina Gendler

Friendly

A marketing executive with deep experience launching startups, Sabina and her co-founder have launched Friendly, an app that helps women build friendship by facilitating in-person one-on-one and group meetups with people who have shared interests.

Her Wish
After a successful beta launch in Brooklyn and parts of Manhattan, Friendly is launching soon in San Francisco, Houston, and Chicago. Sabina’s searching for influencers in those cities who are willing to try Friendly and share their experience with their audience.

Emily deSousa

Pacific Beach Laundry Co., San Diego, CA

After spending more than two decades in corporate America working in customer success roles, Emily bought a scary, run-down laundromat in her neighborhood and transformed it into a clean, safe environment that’s won the hearts of people in her community.

Her Wish
Emily would love listeners to sponsor a free laundry event at her laundromat for those in her community (like the unhoused) who otherwise can’t afford such services. Listeners can do so by contributing as much or little as they’d like to the organization Laundry Cares. Simply go to https://laundrycares.org/donate/ and note in the dedication that you’d like your contribution to go to a laundry event at Pacific Beach Laundry Co. in San Diego (or click “Support Emily” below and we’ll help connect you).
